Default Favorite Old Movie? (Ranging from 1940-1980)

Since this is a free board, I decided to ask what everyone's favorite movie would be.

1940-1980? Hrm. I guess Citizen Kane, then. Pretty much the movie closest to being entirely perfect, although still not my all-time favourite.

A film I love that was from the 60's

    The Devil Rides out.

A brilliant film starring Christopher Lee and Charles Gray, and one of the few roles where Christopher Lee is a good guy.

Citizen Kane is from 1941, Chinatown is from 1974. Kill yourself.

    Night of the Living Dead

Bad Seed is another great one. With a somewhat gay ending however. I think it was 1956 or somewhere near that.

Personally, I love those old black & white horror movies. I just don't find colour films to be anywhere near as effective. By way of example, Night of the Living Dead scared the crap out of me when I first saw it, but Dawn of the Dead did very little for me. The original Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a great movie too, although admittedly I didn't find it particularly frightening. That probably contradicts the last paragraph, but still. Black and white horror movies for the win.

However, I think my favourite "old" movies would have to be the Star Wars trilogy and Sergio Leone's "Dollar" trilogy. I'm surprised nobody in this thread has mentioned the latter as of yet. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly is easily one of my favourite movies of all time.

I take it you've watched every single film from this period, then? It's a given that some sub-standard movies were made back then, but it's ludicrous to dismiss 40 whole years. Especially when you look at some of the crap Hollywood is churning out today. Come back when you can make unbiased comments.
