Default Connecting to your xbox via ftp

This is the third tutorial by now,i just want to share all i know with you, then here goes this third one.

Ive seen a lot of people having problems with these so im going to make this thread the way i connected to my box (because i was one of those persons having problems with it )

Youll need to conect your xbox to your computer first,do it directly since this tutorial is based in that kind of conection, whats direct conection? well its the kind of conection you can do by conecting your xbox with a crossover cable to your computer network card ,(the one with the big slot to conect a cable, in this case the slot has the form to fit a ethernet cable head),dont use a router or other thing between the conection since i dont know if it will work that way.

First obviously you need to have your xbox modded, you can follow my past tutorials to do it,and if youre succesful in it then youre ready to do this, once youve installed a dashboard you can see the ip of your xbox, you can do this by looking at the system settings option within your dashboard(in evox) others i dont know since evox is my first dashboard i have avalaunch too but i dont use it to much, then when you have all the information required go to your pc(computer ,dont try to find this in your xbox ) then open your nic,(local area network card) and click properties, double click the tcp/ip option and inside it click in the enter ip information, there youll put an ip,for example if your xbox has a 192.168.0.2 ip then youre going to put a 193.168.0.3 ip in the nic,in subnet mask put:255.255.255.0 and in the gateway put the one your xbox has in my case its 192.168.0.100 and thats all with this part.

after youve done the previous step download a ftp client such as smart ftp (i recomend this one since its pretty easy to use),or flashfxp maybe others,if youre using smart ftp then just connect to the ip adress your xbox has,in user and password put xbox, make sure youre using port 21,after this youre ready to connect just turn your xbox on with the tray open and when your manager appears you can connect to your box using your ftp client(i call manager to the window with all the options like install soft mod, manage files etc) then in your ftp client just click connect and youre done.

if it doesnt work check carefully that youve put the information in the proper way, like the ip,the pass user and all that, this is all for now hope it helps you.
In any case if this doesnt work like it would post here and ill try to help, theres always a way and if we cant get it to work then i dont know what we can do

You can do it with a router by disabling DHCP, and assigning a static adress to the Xbox. Not really harder.

you dont even need to disable DHCP. And i recommend that you dont. Took me a while to get my router to work right after I disabled DHCP lol.

Yeah you'll also need to put a static IP for your puter man.
When my cousin came with his xbox the router kept doing conflicts if DHCP was enabled (trying to allocate 2 same ip's). That's why I disable DHCP, but i didn't know if it was my router or everyone's router.
    Thanks for the info.

I found my Xbox IP, did the crossover and ran CuteFTP. Enter the XB IP, user+pass. Nothing more to do.

Toss that all out the window.

I now have a DSL modem with a built in router. I have everything hooked up, but I am unable to connect to my Xbox via FTP anymore. I have logged into the router's config page, and added the Xbox IP address, but it still doesn't allow access. The lights on the front of the router/modem are lit - showing an active connection to the Xbox...but I can't log onto the FTP server...

"ipconfig /all" under dos is your best friend.
    Can you ping it?

    This is my previous post:

No, I get request timeout when attempting to ping...

EDIT: IPCONFIG /ALL only gives me info on my NIC and my modem/router.
Ignore all that, because I changed the Xbox to DHCP, and it connected

For the record, I finally got it, so I sign in here, and there is a PM waiting for me from Borman, telling me to set it up as DHCP... I should have signed in sooner

    subnet mask:255.255.255.0

My NIC is configured in WindowsXP to use DHCP, and I have the Xbox's IP set to 192.168.1.46 .. I have no idea why...I don't fully understand what went on to actually get the connection, but I am connected now, so it's all good

EDIT: now I have experience in port forwarding
